Throughout history musicians have performed covers of other
artists' works, from the young guitar student mastering the
ubiquitous riffs of Led Zeppelin to music legends such as Jimi
Hendrix's celebrated version of Bob Dylan's "All Along The
Watchtower".
It takes a huge amount of skill to effectively represent and
recreate in your own style already acclaimed and accepted works.
A group of talented Cyprus based musicians who successfully
perform incredibly like, yet distinctive, renditions of songs by
top names such as Radiohead, Dave Matthews and the Red Hot
Chillies, is the 'Matthew Kallonas band'.
Originally formed in 1995, the 'alternative rock' cover band has
drawn a strong crowd over the past couple of years playing
regular gigs at bars and venues on the Cyprus music circuit. In
our recent interview, Matthew Kallonas, the band's leading
vocalist and song-writer, talks about the life and progress of
the band and its hopes for the near future…
